Saskatoon is mourning a major loss this weekend. Bob Hinitt, a lifelong contributor to the city's arts community, has passed away at the age of 86.

Hinitt built the Castle Theatre at Aden Bowman and was well accomplished in drama, sculpture, and other art forms. He received both the Order of Canada and the Saskatchewan Award of Merit.

He is also known for his elaborate Christmas displays at his Wiggins Avenue home.

Elwood Flynn, a close friend, says he'll always remember Hinitt. "There will only be one Bob Hinitt. He was one of the most kind, thoughtful, talented guys you would ever want to meet. It's very hard to accept the fact that he is not going to be with us any longer."

Hinitt had been battling diabetes complications for a number of months.
