RCMP are investigating after a 22-year-old tourist from Denmark was shot while camping near North Battleford.

Police say the woman was among five people camping at a rural farm near the community of Whitkow, about 40 kilometres northeast of the Battlefords, on Sunday.

According to witnesses, one of the campers thought an animal was approaching the campsite. He fired a gun to scare it away and the shot hit the woman.

She was taken to hospital with non-life threatening wounds to her upper body and later released.

A 26-year-old man was arrested and later released. No charges have been laid in the incident.

RCMP are continuing their investigation.
