It was a tense situation Wednesday afternoon for some Saskatoon students.

Shortly after 1:30 p.m, smoke was spotted in the Nisbet Provincial Forest, 25 kilometers south of Prince Albert. The fire was burning within half a kilometer of Highway #11, but the biggest concern for much of the afternoon was the whereabouts of a girl who was in the forest.

Naomi Bird and her classmates from the Eco-Quest program, based in Saskatoon, were camping a kilometer north of the fire. They packed up camp when they learned of the fire, but Bird, who was off on her own, didn't hear the whistle. She finished her work and made it out safely several hours later. She says she had no clue there was a fire burning so close by.

Over 20 firefighters, helicopters, water bombers, and heavy ground equipment were called in to fight the 40 hectare blaze.
