Saskatchewan's hopes of securing federal funding for a domed stadium in Regina may have just been dashed.

Quebec City had also been lobbying for federal cash for an NHL-style arena. On Thursday, Quebec officials said the project will go ahead, with or without Ottawa's support.

That could be bad news for Regina because it takes the pressure off the federal government to pitch in for similar projects.

The province says it needs an answer from Ottawa soon.

"We are still using the feasibility study that we have from a year ago, but there may have to be some cost adjustments," said Ken Cheveldayoff, the provincial cabinet minister in charge of the proposed $430-million stadium project.

"(The study) has a shelf life of a year and we're approaching that period of time."
